NEW BERLIN – The New Berlin Youth Commission is preparing for its annual Easter egg hunt at Hyde park, a tradition that not only fosters community involvement, but also brings smiles to a flock of children navigating the park in their search for as many colorful eggs they can maneuver.

The North Main street park, situated just to the north of the village center, has played host to this and other such events organized and funded by the Village of New Berlin Youth Commission for several years.

Staring at 1 p.m., The Egg Hunt of 2014 will bring with it the addition of a donated gift card from NBT Bank of New Berlin, along with a few other surprises,” said Youth Commissioner Amy Hoxie.

Hyde park will be busy again next weekend with another locally-organized event: The Arbor Day Celebration. Taking place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, the event has by organized by the village’s newly established Tree Committee. The first ever ceremony will feature Mayor Terry Potter and Robert Off, Senior Forester with the DEC as speakers.

“One of the requirements for obtaining “Tree City” status is for the village to establish and hold an annual Arbor Day celebration,” said Peggy Finnegan, who serves as one of the three committee members along side her husband James Finnegan, former forester Bob Slavicek and Village board member Amy Hoxie.
