NEW BERLIN – For the past three years, a local committee has helped families come together and share special moments that will be remembered for years to come.

Much like their annual Youth Days celebration, which takes place each summer, the New Berlin Youth Days Committee centers its annual fundraiser around the concept of creating life-long memories for everyone who attends.

In preparation for the larger event, the committee will host to the annual Father/Daughter Dance fundraiser, scheduled for Feb. 15 from 5-7 p.m. at the Unadilla Valley school in New Berlin. The two hour event draws not only New Berlin residents, but residents from all over the county. With all proceeds going to the Youth Days Committee, the event acts as an essential part in the funding of the Youth Days celebration, a New Berlin tradition that is now entering its 53rd year.

Terry Potter, Youth Days committee member and owner of Millennia Entertainment which helps coordinate the fundraiser, says the event is not just for father and daughters. “It is open to fathers, grandfathers, uncles, anyone who holds a special place in the child's life is welcome to attend,” he said.

Potter added that, as in years past, he hopes to have a full house.

“I look forward to this event not only to help raise money for the Youth Days, but also as an event to share with my own daughters year after year.”

The dance – which is themed “A Dance with Cinderella” – provides a special experience for all who attend. Many of the guests have attended every year and continue to make it a tradition. There will be refreshments, music by Rock Star DJ service, and pictures provided by The Artists’ Palette in Norwich. Jill Kraft, owner of the Artists’ Palette, says she has done the photography for the event three years running and it's one of her favorites.

“It really is a great event; everyone looks so cute. It's so nice to see the girls and their guests all fancy and happy,” she said. “Included with everyone's ticket is a free 4x6 picture and attendees will also be able to purchase additional pictures the night of the dance.”

A new component this year has been added using the social media site, Facebook.

“We thought it would be nice to have a spot where people can share their thoughts about the event, share pictures and help to get the word out about the dance,” said Potter. “If you go to the Millennia Entertainment Facebook page, there is a video to see and it is open for all to share their memories of such a wonderful event.”

Organizers state they are fortunate to have the continuous support of NBT bank of New Berlin and New Berlin Pizzeria that make this event possible year after year.

Tickets for the dance are $10 for each adult and children are free. Tickets are available for purchase in Norwich at The Artists Palette, Hummel's Office Plus and in New Berlin at the NBT bank and the Unadilla Valley elementary school office.
