SYRACUSE – Sherburne-Earlville’s Austin Jasper and Cody Marango pushed themselves and their teammates to new heights, and were rewarded with all-state recognition Tuesday afternoon in a release by the New York State Sports Writers Association.

Gaining honorable mention nods were Norwich’s Mike Oralls in Class B and Bainbridge-Guilford’s Lucas Butcher in Class D.

The Marauders finished unbeaten in the regular season and hosted their first Section III playoff game since rejoining the section in 2002. Jasper led S-E in tackles for the third straight season, and was the team’s leading receiver and scorer finishing with 13 touchdowns. An all-state pick the previous two seasons, Jasper was named to the Class C first team at linebacker.

“Austin is a physical presence on the field who knows how to get to the ball, and he brings passion to his play,” said Mike Jasper, S-E’s head coach and Austin’s father. “As one college coach told me, (Austin) carries his weight very well and moves great for a kid at 235 pounds. He translates that into a playmaker at the point of attack, and he has no doubt been our leader on defense.”
