Sherburne-Earlville 24, Mount Markham 6

WEST WINFIELD – Sherburne-Earlville won comfortably for the third straight week, although head coach Mike Jasper felt his club should have put more points on the board.

Brady Sopchak ran for a season-high 142 yards, Ben Khoury, Brodie Roebuck, and Garrett DuVall had TD runs, and quarterback Cody Marango hit Austin Jasper on a TD pass to account for the Marauders’ scoring.

Two other drives headed toward the endzone, though, were squashed by fumbles, one at the one-yard line.

“We were a little sloppier than we needed to be, and had some untimely penalties,” Jasper said. “That will hurt us against the good teams, but beyond that, we held them under 100 yards rushing, and offensively, we were able to do a lot of things. We still have to be more precise, and maybe that’s the perfectionist in me.”

The Marauders marched for a TD on their first possession with Khoury, a receiver, scoring from 30 yards out on an end-around. Cody Marango’s 15-yard TD toss to Jasper made it 12-0, but a defensive breakdown allowed the Mustangs to cut that lead in half. Mark Panbillo scored on a 42-yard quick-hitter making it 12-6 late in the half. S-E regained its 12-point lead by halftime on DuVall’s one-yard plunge.
