Gus Busters, volunteers needed

NORWICH – The Norwich Family YMCA is calling on all volunteers to lend a helping hand during the 18th annual Gus Macker three-on-three basketball tournament, set to take to the streets of Norwich this weekend.

More than 1,700 players are expected to take part in this year’s tournament, and thousands more will watch from the sidelines. But each year, recruiting volunteers to keep things running smoothly proves to be a challenge.

“Volunteers are an incredibly important component of this entire event,” said tournament coordinator Tom Revoir. “Right now, we’re looking for at least half a dozen people who can be an adult court monitor.”

Adult court monitors must be at least 18 years old with a knowledge of basketball and an ability to settle minor disputes.

“We’re also looking for water runners and garbage carriers to help out,” Revoir added.
