OXFORD – A five-run first inning catapulted UV into the lead Wednesday as the Storm regrouped from its poor showing Monday.

Brandon Kuhn hit a two-run double in the opening frame, and Kurt Haycook followed with an RBI single.

Oxford chopped three runs off of that deficit in its opening at-bat. Andrew Golden tripled in one run, and Matt Moore along with Kevin Davis drove in runs. The Blackhawks, though, didn’t score again until the bottom of the seventh.

“There are a lot of even teams in our league, and it’s the team that puts seven innings together that will win games,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “UV put a couple of guys on base early in the game, and was able to capitalize.”

Moore had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the Blackhawks. Richard Ryan added two hits and one RBI.
