Braving the storm, the worst is over

CHENANGO COUNTY – Emergency management officials reported the area received between 13 and 20 inches of snow since a winter storm warning was issued Thursday.

Board of Supervisors Chairman Richard B. Decker declared a State of Emergency for Chenango County due to the snow storm and issued a road closure order from 7 p.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Friday, restricting travel on any road to emergency vehicles only.

City of Norwich Emergency Management Director A. Wesley Jones said a winter travel advisory would still be in effect until noon Friday.

“The worst is absolutely over at this point,” he said. Jones added that the area would continue to receive snowfall through the weekend.

“There’s still a chance for about one to three inches later today and flurries throughout the weekend, maybe an inch here or there,” he said.

The office reported these recorded levels of snowfall in Chenango.
