Kazalski Tournament Finals

B-G 47, Marathon 24

BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford’s defense shut down Marathon in the middle two quarters to turn a tight game into a blowout in Tuesday night’s Kazalski Tournament championship game.

“Our defense really took over, and Kim Brown’s defense on their leading scorer (Samantha Courtney) was a big factor,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. Conway said that Brown contained the 6-foot-1 Courtney by limited her inside post touches, and kept her off the offensive glass.

B-G took a 10-point lead into halftime after a 7-7 first quarter, and extended the margin to 23 points by holding Marathon to one point in the third – and that point came in the final 30 seconds of the quarter.

“In the third quarter, our defense got a couple of steals and we had some breakaway baskets,” Conway said. “Things kind of snowballed for (Marathon).”
