Brookfield’s Buzzer Beater Hands Vikings A Heartbreaking Loss

BROOKFIELD – Close throughout the enitre contest, the Otselic Valley Vikings boys basketball team fell just one point short of the upset to Brookfield Friday night, 48-47.

OV trailed by four points late in the fourth and cut it to one point but a Brookfield layup put them back up by three points.

On the very next play, the Vikings Dakota Adams finished a three point play by knocking down a free throw after getting fouled on a made basket. His and-1 play tied the game up at 45-45.

Defensively, OV made a stop to get the ball back and converted on the offensive end as Adams made another two foul shots to give the Vikings a 47-45 lead with 10 seconds left in the game.

Brookfield then tossed up a prayer towards their basket. The ball bounced around the rim then dropped through the net to as the buzzer sounded to give the Beavers the one point win.

After a 17-13 first quarter, Brookfield led by just four points. The two middle quarters of action saw the teams match basket for basket as both the Vikings and Beavers each scored 14 in the second and six in the third.

Leaving just the final eight minutes to battle for the win, Otselic Valley outscored the host Beavers 14-11 but the heave at the end allowed Brookfield to squeak by for the win.
