Fourteenth annual recycled holiday ornament contest winners

OXFORD – The Oxford Holiday Committee’s fourteenth annual Recycled Holiday Ornament contest winners were announced by the honorable Oxford Village Mayor, Terry Stark at the Tree Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, November 26. All 24 ornament entries (from 17 students) from Oxford Academy Primary School are considered winners, and will receive Certificates of Recognition as a show of gratitude; however, place awards in each grade were selected.

Gift certificate prizes from Oxford merchants were sponsored by the Oxford Holiday Committee - Big Blue’s/Valero gift certificate good for a large pizza, Hoppie’s ice cream parlor for ice cream sundaes, and Mr. Chubb’s for hot chocolates topped with whipped cream. In addition, the DEC donated NY Recycles calendars for prizes.

The students, along with their families, who showed outstanding creativity among their peers and an exceptional understanding of the concept of recycling are:

In Kindergarten, 1st Place: Carter Davis for his cardboard tube angel w/aluminum wings (Ms. Karaman's class)

2nd Place: Lilly Davenport for her aluminum & twist-tie reindeer (Ms. Karaman's class)

3rd Place: Delaney Carey for a bottle cap snowman (Ms. Morrison's class)

In First Grade, 1st Place: Eddie Ingraham for his 3 tin can snowman (Mrs. Clark-Butler's class)

2nd Place: Korbin Sampson for his snowman of plastic and cardboard (Mrs. Emerson's class)

3rd Place: Raine Rovente for her "Rudolph" of cardboard tube and (red) plastic bottle cap (Mrs. Clark-Butler's class)
