SHERBURNE – Homecoming for the Sherburne-Earlville boys soccer team, the Marauders squared up with the Golden Knights of Holland-Patent.

S-E’s Kyle Cole earned two strikes on the day to help lift his home squad to the 3-2 win on Friday, September 22.

“The Marauder offensive build up and patience was rewarded when Edward Geier's pass, inside the final six minutes of the game, found Kyle Cole across the 18-yard box slotting home the game winning shot,” said Sherburne-Earlville head coach Mike Rodriguez.

Cole’s strike in the final minutes moved the marker from a 2-2 tie to a solid 3-2 win. Remarkably, S-E had amassed a nice 2-0 lead in the first half – but a slip in their play midway allowed the game to fall to an even pace.

To open the game, the Marauders sent in Owen Rodriguez, who capitalized on a defensive mistake and scored in the two-minute mark of the game. Following Rodriguez’s goal, it was Cole who added to the lead – scoring his first of two – when he converted a direct kick from 20 yards out in the 10-minute mark of the first half.

“The Purple Knights responded quickly with a goal of their own as Joshua Core split the Marauder defense beating Conor Ryan with a far post shot in the 12-minute mark,” said coach Rodriguez.
