NORWICH – Bob Branham, a seasoned vet in the golfing world of Chenango County has now added another knotch on his belt – winning his 23rd club championship

“Against a very young and very good field,” said Tim Carson, owner of the Canasawacta Country Club.

Branham, now 62-years old, notably won his first club championship back in 1974. The Club Championship has been played at CCC every year since 1959 – that means that Branham has won the tournament 23 out of 43 possible years, winning 53.4 percent of the time since he started.

Golfers played 18 holes on Saturday, August 19, and then followed that up with playing 36 holes on Sunday.

Branham started Sunday afternoon with a three stroke lead over Nick Brunick and was four strokes ahead of Ryan Johnson – according to Carson. Also in the field were past club champions, Brenon Maynard, Tom Muserilli, Bryan Smith and Lee Skillin.

Notably, Lee Skillin shot 69 to share the lead with Branham after round one, but faltered over the final two rounds.

In the other sub tournaments, 2017 marked the second consecutive year that Stu Hughes won the Senior Club Championship. Chuck Kelly took home his first ever Men’s Net and Senior Net championships.
