OV Vikings claim Patriot League title

OTSELIC – The 2016-2017 Otselic Valley varsity wrestling team has officially claimed a chuck of the Patriot League title. After opening the season with a loss to Port Byron in Dec. of 2016, OV went on to defeat Cato-Meridian and Onondaga.

“Beating Onondaga was the key to the whole thing as they beat Port Byron in their match,” said Otselic Valley head coach Gregory Winn.

Onondaga’s victory over Port Byron this past weekend entered OV into three-way tie for the league championship – officially earning them a tri-champ title of the Patriots league (small schools in the OHSL league).

On the year, OV's 99 pounder, Nate Purtell, was named OHSL champion pinning all three of of his OHSL opponents for the title – while Coach Winn was named OHSL Patriot League coach of the year.

Looking forward, the Vikings are heading to the OHSL Class C and D Tournament in Hannibal this Saturday, Feb. 4.
