NORWICH – Both the girls and boys varsity squads for the Norwich Purple Tornado played – and subsequently won – when they were pitted against the Blue Devils of Chenango Forks this past Friday.

The girls defeated the Blue Devils in Norwich as they defended their home court with the tune of a 66-54 win; while the boys traveled south to take on Chenango Forks, where they managed a 61-51 victory.

• The Norwich girls were faced with a high powered offense who managed to keep pace with theirs this past Friday, Jan. 6, as a 19-17 point Norwich first period was looking to shape into a high scoring affair.

However, despite the Norwich point totals trickling off as the game progressed, so did Chenango Forks – at a much higher rate.

With a bounce-back period of 15 points in the third, it was Norwich who kept pace with 15 of their own – only to once again see improved defense hold Chenango Forks held to nine points to close out the game.

Leading Norwich in scoring on the night was senior Meghan Komendarek. The Tornado senior attacked the net for 22 points, while her teammate Triniti Myers trailed with 16 points to help secure the win.
