Habitat volunteers prepare to set roof trusses

SHERBURNE- Habitat volunteers worked through the rainy weather this past week, as they prepared to set roof trusses on the house being constructed on Shawler Brook in the Town of Sherburne. The habitat volunteers thave straightened and braced framed walls and built gabled ends, leveled and stabilized the site’s septic tank. The crew is now looking ahead to putting trusses in place this week.

The Shawler Brook project is the sixth new house built by Chenango County Habitat since 1999. Other houses are located in the Village of Bainbridge, the City of Norwich, the Village of Greene and the Town of Bainbridge. In addition to providing “simple, decent” housing for these families in need, the five completed projects have added approximately $500,000 in assessed valuation to local tax rolls.
