Early Morning Burglary Suspect May Have Been Armed, Remains At Large

NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department is actively investigating a burglary and robbery, and the suspect – who was said to have possibly been armed and was donned in a dark scarf over the face – remains at large Thursday evening.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at early Thursday morning on Lackawanna Avenue in the City of Norwich.

At approximately 6 a.m., a resident was said to have been awakened when one individual entered the apartment and began making specific demands. At this time, the demands of the suspect have not been released.

Norwich Police Chief Rodney Marsh said, “The suspect was alleged to have been armed with a handgun during the incident.”

It was also said that the resident was restrained during the encounter.

Authorities said the suspect was inside the residence for a brief period, then left in an unknown direction.

Marsh said – based on the preliminary investigation – that, “It appears the suspect may have known the victim.”

The suspect has been described as wearing blue jeans, a dark colored shirt/jacket, a dark colored ball cap and a dark colored scarf covering the individual’s face.

The victim was slightly injured during the incident, authorities added, but did not require medical attention. The victim is cooperating with the NPD as the investigation is continuing.
