Hellcats split series in high scoring affair

WHITNEY POINT – The Chenango Hellcats Legion baseball team traveled to Whitney Point this past Saturday, June 18 to split the double-header action with Whitney Point.

The first game, a league game, which began at 1 p.m., would see the Hellcats dominate the contest, winning 17-5.

“We crushed them, we crushed them pretty good. We put the hammer down, we just had everything together,” said Legion head coach Jason Miller.

The Hellcats erupted onto the scene in the second inning when the posted a four run inning in their favor to get the ball rolling.

Miller credited an all around great team effort to the win, however, noted some incredible pitching on his teams part to a large part of the win.

“Pitching was pretty good in our first game. We gave Nate (Scheer) as much as I could then we switched it up,” said Miller.

Scheer would pitch first on the mound for The Hellcats for four innings, gaining six strikeouts in that time, before Joe Devona would come in to close the game out, gaining an additional strikeout.
