Norwich State Qualifier:
• All but one Chenango County female athlete completed their 2016 track and field season with the conclusion of the state qualifier meet.
It was Emily Shattuck, a sophomore from Norwich, who will be competing further into the season when she narrowly qualified for the state meet in the long jump.
Shattuck, who had been battling with some injuries early on in the season has returned to her natural form of excellence, as was showcased recently with this qualification. Shattuck would take to the long jump pits to earn a fourth overall finish in the event, jumping a solid 16'11.25”. Shattuck would only need to finish top two in her event out of class B schools, something she secured, coming in behind the eventual champion from Whitney Point, Emily Salvemini who jumped 17'04.5”.
Long jump: Other than Shattuck earning her ticket to states in the event, The Tornado would also see senior Marysa Campbell compete with her 14'05” jump to land in sixteenth place overall. Freshman Abi Selfridge from Bainbridge-Guilford would also see some action in the event with her thirteenth place jump of 15'01.5”.
4x100 relay: Norwich would see their squad of Marysa Campbell, Emily Shattuck, Hailey Colabelli, and Delilah Geislinger run their fastest time of the season during the outing, running a 53.12 in the first heat of the semi-finals and qualifying for the finals. The finals saw the team best that time setting a new personal best of 52.69 and earning a sixth place finish.
