Shattuck earns her trip to states as lone female from Chenango County

VESTAL – All of the varsity girls track and field athletes from all classes in Section IV met in Vestal on Thursday, June 2, for a final their final chance to qualify for a chance to represent their section and respective school at the state level in the upcoming state tournament.

Chenango County was represented by student athletes from Norwich, Greene, Unadilla Valley, Bainbridge-Guilford, and Harpursville-Afton.

Norwich State Qualifier:

• All but one Chenango County female athlete completed their 2016 track and field season with the conclusion of the state qualifier meet.

It was Emily Shattuck, a sophomore from Norwich, who will be competing further into the season when she narrowly qualified for the state meet in the long jump.

Shattuck, who had been battling with some injuries early on in the season has returned to her natural form of excellence, as was showcased recently with this qualification. Shattuck would take to the long jump pits to earn a fourth overall finish in the event, jumping a solid 16'11.25”. Shattuck would only need to finish top two in her event out of class B schools, something she secured, coming in behind the eventual champion from Whitney Point, Emily Salvemini who jumped 17'04.5”.
