Chenango County Athletes Shine In Stars And Stripes Classic Championship

BINGHAMTON - Mirabito Energy Products came out on top in the Stars and Stripes classic championship game on Friday, March 27th, after beating Battisti and Garzo 64-52.

Coached by Bainbridge-Guilford coaches Bob Conway and Greg Warren, Mirabito Energy Products was consisting of seven Chenango County athletes, as well as a few other players from the Southern Tier.

Battisti and Garzo was made up mainly of players from the Southern Tier, with the exception of Greene’s Katherine Carey and Sherburne-Earlville’s Lilly Berg and Savannah Irwin.

After trailing in the first quarter, Mirabito Energy jumped ahead in the second and would maintain the lead for the remainder of the game. Norwich’s Shelby Benjamin scored 9 of her 13 points in the first half to help put Mirabito Energy ahead.

It was Bainbridge-Guilford’s Megan Palmatier that would lead the way for Mirabito Energy, scoring a game high 16 points. Another Bobcat with a big night was Abigail Selfridge, who added on another 11 points. The two also combined to go a perfect 9-9 from the free-throw line.

On the other side, Battisti and Garzo was led by Susquehanna Valley junior Erin Nolan, who scored a team high 10 points. Katherine Carey of Greene tacked on another 8 points.
