Bobcats Take Home Second With Norwich Trailing Tied For Fourth

BAINBRIDGE-GUILFORD – Section IV Athletics recently held the2016 Section IV Open Badminton and Table Tennis Championship Tournament, and two Chenango County Schools with several individuals from both, made some notable showings.

The Championships were held at B-G high school on March 12, at 9 a.m., with the tournament consisting of ten different categories individuals could choose to participate in including; both girls and boys divisions of Boys Singles for Badminton or Table Tennis, Doubles for Badminton or Table Tennis, or a mixed Doubles division.

The home team, B-G walked away as a school with 19 total points on the day, claiming a second place finish, trailing the eventual winner Sidney by only five points at 24. Norwich, would be outscored as a team compared to Sidney and B-G would scrap together a respectable 9-points to hold the tie at fourth place with Waverly and Corning.

Sidney's Larry Hynes would be awarded the Championship Award; while B-G's Jody Hughes would earn the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament.

In the boys singles division of Table Tennis, Ben-Gabriel Gonzalez took home the gold; with fellow classmate, Austin Carr and Sean Jones, also of B-G, taking home a first place finish in the boys doubles for Badminton as well, earning Chenango County their only two first place finishes.
