DELHI – Despite letting a sizeable lead slip away in the fourth quarter, the Unadilla Valley men’s basketball team hung on to save the victory against tough opponents Delhi, 51-49, last night, Feb. 11.

With 30 seconds left to play, the game reached a climax. Brett Hanslmaier was fouled and consequently made both of his free throw attempts to put the Storm up by three points. Delhi let the clock dwindle down until there was only 2.4 seconds left in the game before UV intentionally fouled Nate Craft. Craft made his first free-throw attempt and intentionally missed his second, but Ethan Grey was on hand for UV to grab the all-important rebound and seal the win.

Up until the fourth quarter, UV had a healthy lead. They raced out to an early 21-4 lead after the first quarter. Hanslmaier notched eight of his game-high 19 points in the quarter. At the half-time break, they held a 10-point advantage, 28-18.

In the second half, the Storm defense began to falter. They allowed Delhi to score 11 points in the third and 20 in the fourth quarter but they made the big play when it mattered the most to salvage the victory.

“We played a great first quarter and then hung on for the win,” said UV head coach Matt Osborne. “We also played good defense.”
