Shaver Continues NHS Indoor Track Record-breaking Form

CORTLAND – Senior Katelyn Shaver followed in the footsteps of her teammates Thomas Reilly and Caroline Stewart, breaking the NHS indoor track school record in shot put, with a throw of 38 feet, 5 ½ inches at the Finger Lakes Invitational held at SUNY Cortland last weekend. Brooke Bonney held the previous record of 37 feet, 11 inches.

Reilly and David Bernstein both impressed yet again, finishing first and second respectively in the shot put competition. Reilly threw a whopping 50 feet, 5 ½ inches, while Bernstein threw a notable 44 feet, 11 ½ inches.

Other notable performers for the Tornado were Ben Ericksen, who finished fourth in the 3200 meters, with a time of 10:19.81 and Emily Shattuck, who also placed fourth in the women’s 55-meter dash, with a time of 7.69.

Both the Norwich men and women’s teams finished ninth overall at the Invitational. Corning, once again, topped the men’s division, with 59 points, while Horseheads finished atop the women’s division, garnering 56 total points.
