Blackhawk wrestlers get pin happy on Senior night

OXFORD – On their Senior night, the Oxford Blackhawks wrestling team picked up their second consecutive dual meet triumph on the trot at home against Ithaca last Friday night, winning 51-33.

Oxford honored four seniors on the night: Kordell Huntley, at the 285-pound weight class; Garett Sylstra, at the 182-pound weight class; Zach Tepfenhart, at the 132-pound weight class and Corey Marshman, at the 145-pound weight division.

The meet began at the 152-pound weight class, with Ithaca’s Declan Levine getting the win by forfeit. Ithaca would get two more consecutive forfeits, at the 160 and 170-pound weight classes, before Oxford put their first points on the score sheet. The first Senior up on the night, Garett Sylstra, pinned his opponent, Nick Wolgo, after 1:09.

The momentum would switch in the Blackhawks favor, and they won the next five matches by pins. Kordell Huntley, the second Senior up on the night, joined Sylstra on the win list, pinning his opponent after just eleven seconds to capture the 285-weight class victory.
