SAUQUOIT – Sherburne-Earlville men’s basketball bounced back from a tough loss against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill earlier in the week with a win against Sauquoit Valley last Friday night.

The Marauders offense got off to a hot start, with Matt Hull hitting nine of his 18 points in the first quarter. They kept up the pace and, by the half-time break; S-E had opened up an 11-point lead.

Although Sherburne and SV battled back and forth for the final two quarters, the result never really seemed to be in doubt.

Sauquoit Valley couldn’t keep up with the high tempo S-E offense throughout the entirety of the game. Free throw shooting was also their downfall, as they only shot 48 percent from the line, going 10-21 on the night.

Gavin Giroux had his second consecutive 20-point outing, with nine in the last quarter for the Marauders to close out the victory. Sam Tuttle also contributed to the win, with eight of his 13 points coming in the second half. SV’s Center Kody Taylor was the highest scorer on the night, grabbing 27 points in his team’s loss.

The Marauders will be hoping to continue their winning ways when they travel to Canastota next Tuesday night.
