Blackhawks Losing Streak Extends To 12 Games

OXFORD – The Lady Blackhawks varsity girl’s basketball team suffered yet another loss Monday night to Harpursville on a score line of 43-31. The latest defeat extends their losing streak to 12 games.

This game was a tale of two halves. The Blackhawks kept pace with the Hornets for the first 16 minutes and were only down by three points at the half-time break, 23-20.

In the second half, Harpursville began to pull away. They outscored the Blackhawks by four points in the third quarter and five points in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory.

Free throws played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game. Oxford shot just 29 percent from the line, on 4 for 14 attempts, while their opponents boasted an impressive 89 percent from the stripe, on 16 for 18 attempts.

The main difference maker in the game was Harpursville shooting guard Allison Storrs, who chalked up a game-high 17 points on the night. 11 of her points came courtesy of the free throw line. Point guard Rachael Seiler was the top scorer for the Blackhawks, with 10 points on the night.

Oxford will be trying to get a win on the board in their next game against Deposit at home next Friday night, Jan. 15, at 7:00 p.m.
