GREENE – The lady Trojans rolled over the Harpursville Hornets Tuesday afternoon on their way to an impressive 61 to 16 victory.

“I was very pleased, we moved the ball well offensively and shared the ball, which helped our shooting,” said Greene Head Coach Dave Gorton.

Greene began the game flying onto the scoreboard with an 18-0 run. It wasn’t until a 1:33 left in the first quarter of the game that Greene surrendered it’s first points to the Hornets, when Harpursville’s Abbey Hunt hit a 3 point shot.

The Trojans would go on the second quarter of play, to only surrender 3 more points leading the Hornets 29 to 6 at the half.

Defense was the key, we got some easy baskets in transition early in the first quarter which really got us confident,” said Gorton, “all year long we have been playing real good defense.”

Gorton attributed the great offensive and defensive showing from his team to the movement of the ball on offense and the key theme of defensive excellence he has been instilling throughout the season.

“Defense, defense, defense, our goal is to try to keep people from getting easy shots. Since our first game of the season when we were nervous and young, our defense has really gotten good,” said Gorton, “for the most part we have kept teams in single figures every quarter and that is what you need to do to win games.”
