Norwich Cyclone program recognizes four scholar athletes

NORWICH - The Norwich Pop Warner Football and Cheer Program recognized several of their student athletes on Sunday, October 9 at Alumni Field at Perry Browne Elementary School in Norwich at their last home game.

Across the United States, over 400,000 boys and girls participate in Pop Warner cheer and football programs annually. The top 1% are selected to All-American teams based on academic average, awards and community service.

The 2015 season saw four Cyclone participants recognized as Scholar Athletes by meeting the qualifications of being in fifth grade or higher and having a 96 or above overall academic average. Our local nominees will now go onto the regional and national competitions, with the final winners being announced in late spring 2016.

Christine Edwards, Cyclone scholastic coordinator recognized four of our local athletes during the pregame recognition prior to the Cyclone game against the Utica Bulldogs on October 4th. The four scholar athletes are Mason Edwards, Griffin Mills, Andrew Mullen, and Michael Squires.
