Cyclones Top New Hartford

NORWICH – The Cyclones “B” Team downed the New Hartford Spartans 15-14 at home Sunday, October 4, in a game that was a rematch of the Cyclones 6-0 victory just two weeks ago. The Cyclones started the scoring off in the second quarter with a 21-yard TD pass from Griffin Mills to Jaden Jenkins. Andrew Mullen kicked the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0, Cyclones.

The Spartans scored late in the second quarter to tie the game at 8-8 for a halftime score.

In the third quarter, Norwich went ahead 15-8 with a three yard touchdown run by Griffin Mills. Michael Squires added an extra point with a three-yard run.

Late in the game, with only 20 seconds left, a New Hartford player stripped a Cyclone ball carrier and then lateralled the ball to a teammate for a Spartan TD. Going for two points with a kick, the Spartans extra point attempt was blocked by the Cyclones, who ended up with a 15-14 victory.

The Cyclone team played outstanding defense all day. The defensive efforts were led by Izaiah Caballero, Jared Houck, Joey Marvin, Isaiah Gonzalez, Mullen, Cameron Byrne, Malachi Gaters and Dylan Bresee. Caballero had a fumble recovery late in the game. Jaden Jenkins, Squires and Gaters all recorded several QB sacks.
