CHENANGO COUNTY – Chenango County District Attorney candidate Zachary Wentworth extends his gratitude to all those who volunteered, voted, or provided words of encouragement during his campaign for the Republican primary held last week.

Wentworth lost the primary.

"I would like to thank all our volunteers and staff for their support," Wentworth told a group of supporters who gathered at Park Place Restaurant in Norwich on Primary night. "I appreciate the tremendous efforts that everyone provided to the campaign."

While Wentworth lost the Republican primary, he reminded all of his supporters that his campaign for the seat is not over. Wentworth will still appear on the November 3rd ballot after being endorsed by the Chenango County Democratic Party.

“While I am running on the Democrat line, I am still a Republican,” said Wentworth. “This has nothing to do with my politics, but was accomplished because of my desire to give people a choice.”

Said Wentworth, “District Attorney is not a position where political views play a significant role. As Mr. McBride pointed out very early in the campaign, the position is really apolitical.”

Story Continues Below Adverts

Wentworth noted that he sought the cross endorsement for this very reason. “While tonight’s [last week’s] turnout was ok, there were almost ten thousand registered Republicans that didn’t make it out to the polls today,” Wentworth noted. “Essentially, today’s turnout represented nine and a half percent (9.5%) of the total registered voters in Chenango County. There are still a lot of voices to be heard come November.”

Said Wentworth, “I think that more importantly [than political affiliation], District Attorney is about someone that has the temperament and ability to review a case on the merits and be able to come to a just outcome for the case. Being concerned in numbers and statistics can cloud that judgement, which is the most important part of the job.”

Wentworth encourages Chenango County residents to reach out to him with any questions they may have by phone, email or social media. His campaign website can be found at www.WentworthforDA.com.
