NORWICH - In their second match of the season the Norwich girls' tennis team took on Owego Free Academy in their first league game yesterday, winning 6-1. The Tornado girls won every match they competed in, the only loss for Norwich came from a doubles forfeit.

In singles action it was Makenzie Maynard who led the way for Norwich, capturing victory in two sets, winning them 6-2 and 6-0. Also competing in singles was Caroline Stewart. Stewart won both her sets as well, winning 6-1 and 6-0. Norwich only gave up seven games in singles play, winning every match handily. "It was a good win for us," Said Norwich Coach John Stewart. "It was a good win against a young Owego team. We saw how good we can really be."

Norwich was also very impressive in doubles play, only giving up a few games to Owego as well. Megan Burke and Brooke Steigerwald won their match easily as well, winning 6-1 in both sets. Also competing in doubles were Ava Granquist and Olivia Granquist who won their match 6-1 and 6-2. "We had solid wins all up and down the roster," Stewart said. "Now we're on to getting ready for Seton tomorrow. That should be one of the toughest matches of the season."
