PLYMOUTH - This Thursday, August 6, marks the 57th Annual Member-Guest golf tournament at the Canasawacta Country Club. Members and their guests will participate in the three day tournament that concludes Saturday, August 8.
Over 170 golfers will return to the course this year to see if they can capture the championship for themselves. A shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday means that play will be starting early this year. Last year’s overall winners, Matt Burrell and Craig Dawson, will return to attempt a repeat. “Both guys are solid golfers,” said Club President Tim Carson. “They’re really consistent guys who can definitely repeat this year if they play well.”
Burrell and Dawson both say that they have been playing together for at least seven years. After a fantastic start to the tournament last year, the pairing ended on a high note by blowing away the rest of the field. Burrell and Dawson finished all three rounds without a single bogey. “That’s not something to take lightly,” Carson said. “Here or on any course that’s very impressive.”
Burrell and Dawson finished an impressive six shots ahead of the second place team last year. The tandem played all three rounds finishing at 19 under par with 15 birdies, two eagles, and no bogeys. The performance is believed to be one of the best in the history of the tournament. Leading by at least three strokes all tournament, Burrell and Dawson put on the gas and never let up. “Last year we had a great three rounds,” said returning champion Matt Burrell. “We plan on going out there and doing the same kind of things again this year.”
