Concerns of flooding loom after Friday storm

CHENANGO COUNTY – While many county residents are still reeling from the damage caused by a series of storms that swept through the region on Friday, emergency personnel have their eye on potential flooding as more rain is forecasted for today.

A flash flood watch for the south-eastern portions of Chenango County was canceled by the National Weather Service early Monday morning. The latest weather statement issued by the NWS of Binghamton notes rainfall coverage and rates that have “dropped off significantly, and impacts from earlier flash flooding will continue to wane.”

However, with many areas still heavily saturated from rainfall on Friday and Saturday, there’s still a risk of minor flooding in some areas, according to Chenango County emergency personnel.
