Barn destroyed in New Berlin blaze

NEW BERLIN – Firefighters from four area departments worked throughout the afternoon on Tuesday to knock down a barn fire on the outskirts of the Town of New Berlin.

A call to Chenango County 911 was placed by a Town of Columbus highway employee who passed by the burning structure at 912 New Turnpike Rd.

Within minutes, New Berlin Fire initiated scene command and, according to scanner reports, relayed that the structure was “fully involved and on the ground” upon arrival.

State Police from Troop C were also on the scene. It was unknown if the building was covered by fire insurance.
