Second annual Bruce Haak Memorial Sleigh Rally this weekend in Bainbridge

BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce is set to host the second annual Bruce Haak Memorial Sleigh Rally at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge this Sunday, Feb. 8, from 1-3 p.m.

The Sleigh Rally is a free event for the whole family. “It’s a free day out for people on a cold day in the winter,” said Phil Canonaco, Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce member, event organizer, and owner of the Highway 7 Bar and Grill. “It’s a nice thing to break up the winter, when it’s cold out and everything costs money – it’s a nice community thing.”

The Sleigh Rally will include horses and sleighs from all over the area for people to admire and to give rides to attendees. “There will be a lot of horses here,” said Canonaco, “A lot of sleigh clubs come down to visit us, like The Cherry Valley Association from up north and some other clubs.”

“We will have all different kinds of horses over there for people to admire, to look at, and to get a ride on,” said Canonaco.

It is a lot of work for the people that come with horses and gear to participate. “They have to prepare the horses and get the sleighs ready,” said Canonaco. “It's a lot of prep work. They can't just throw the horses on a trailer and come.”

“People that come with their horses are very proud of their animals and they like to show them off,” Canonaco added.
