NORWICH – Norwich wrestling coach Terry Hagenbuch drew up three different possible lineups for Tuesday night’s home dual meet with Oneonta.

He chose the correct one.

“I told the guys there is about five different ways it could go, but the bottom line is that we needed to win our matches,” Hagenbuch said.

Norwich closed the meet with wins in each of the final five bouts to offset three forfeits it rendered to the Yellowjackets.

Dalen Geislinger (113) began the run with a pin; Ty Rifanburg (120) picked up a takedown with less than 10 seconds remaining to nip Mitchell Spaziani, 2-0; Dustin Marvin (126) won in his season debut pinning Parker Atkins; Carter Hubbard (132) rallied from a 2-0 deficit after two periods to defeat Tony Pentaris, 8-3; and freshman Brennan Slater (138) scored a 4-0 decision over Rumeal Soler.

The loss for Oneonta was just its second against Section IV competition this season, while Norwich improved its own dual mark to 14-4. “They can fill all 15 weights and we can only fill 13 – 12 tonight,” Hagenbuch said. “We knew we had to move people around, and they had to win.”

Elijah Rodriguez (99) overcame a shaky first period to rout Nick Dower, 20-7; Dalen Geislinger picked up a slick pin at 113 pounds, and Tornado seniors Tristan Rifanburg (160) and Frankie Garcia (170) bumped up weight classes to earn pins.

Norwich hosts Sidney on Thursday.
