LAURENS – G-MU created a double-digit lead in the third quarter, and went on to win the consolation game of the Pat Grasso Tournament beating Afton by 14 points Saturday.

The victory came one day removed from a blowout loss to last year's Class D sectional semifinalist, South Kortright.

"The way we were beaten down the night before and things we're not going well early against Afton, we came back well and weren't nervous," said G-MU coach Jim Johnson of the win over the Crimson Knights.

Afton jumped out to an 8-0 first-quarter lead over the Raiders before G-MU turned the tables with a 14-point unanswered salvo of its own. Tayler Nichols keyed the turnaround with 11 points in the first half, and she finished with 17 for the game.

G-MU led by five at halftime, and hiked the advantage to 14 with a 10-1 third quarter. Meghan Meers, G-MU's all-tournament pick, finished strong with eight of her 11 points in the fourth.

Johnson said South Kortright returned all five of its starters off a 19-1 team from a year ago, and that wealth of experience paid off in a 32-2 second half.

Meers had eight points for G-MU in the loss.

The Raiders play Unadilla Valley Tuesday.
