Man Charged With Murder After Shooting In Bainbridge

BAINBRIDGE — A 26-year-old man was shot to death and another man is being treated following a shooting Monday.

According to New York State Police Troop C Commander James Barnes, police responded to a shooting that took place in the parking lot of 2907 State Route 7 in the Town of Bainbridge — the parking lot of Peak Fitness.

Police responded to the location at approximately 1:27 p.m.

Derek D. Prindle, 26, was transported to the Tri Town Hospital in Sidney where he succumbed to his injuries.

60-year-old Derek. S. Prindle of Afton is currently being treated at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City. According to police, his injury is a gunshot wound.

John M. Guzy, 56, Bainbridge, was arrested and taken into custody at the NYS Police Barracks in Sidney and has been charged with murder in the second degree, a class A-1 felony.

Guzy was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility after being arraigned in the Town of Bainbridge Court.

According to Barnes, the investigation is ongoing.
