Greene 3, Tioga 1

TIOGA – Greene's road warriors advanced to the Class C semifinals beating Tioga Wednesday night.

A season ago, the Trojans needed two road wins to advance to the Section IV finals where it played as the "road" team on its home turf against Whitney Point. Greene (10-6) is now one win away from a possible finals rematch with the Golden Eagles.

"We said this week that we've played a tough schedule this season, and we were ready to play," said Greene coach Sue Carlin. "It was also nice to play a team we haven't played before. Tioga was scrappy, and we didn't want an easy game. We had to work hard tonight."

Greene's Gina Lobdell came off the bench to score at the 22 1/2-minute mark off a feed from Skylar Gilmore. Tioga pressed the attack late in the first half, and nearly came up with the tying goal.

Greene goalie Julia Amell made a diving save, and Gilmore picked up the loose ball and cleared it out of the defensive zone. "Tioga had some good sticks in the circle, and we dodged a bullet in the first half," Carlin said. "That would have been tough if they scored the equalizer before halftime."

Laura Durdon scored to make it a two-goal lead before Tioga cut the lead in half. Kristy Haskell gave Greene (10-6) some breathing room with the team's third goal of the game.
