NORWICH – Playing in a steady downpour Wednesday afternoon, Norwich tallied three goals in the first half before play was halted due to poor field conditions.

Chris Trevisani, Sean Phelan, and Pablo Rojas had unassisted goals for the Purple Tornado (8-8), who will compete in the sectional soccer tournament next week. “We couldn’t play our normal balls, so we had to keep the ball out of the water,” said Norwich coach Scottie Decker, who said her players did a lot of juggling with the ball as players moved down the field.

Norwich’s appearance in the Class B soccer tournament will be its first in several years.

Sidney 1, Unadilla Valley 0

NEW BERLIN – In another contest shortened by rain, Sidney’s Tyler McKee scored his first varsity goal in a victory over host Unadilla Valley Wednesday.

McKee scored when teammate Riley Howland split the Storm defense with a through ball to McKee, who fired a low shot into the corner of the goal. “We had multiple opportunities,” said UV coach Ryan Houck. “Their stout defense and the elements kept us off the score books.”

Unadilla Valley is idle until the Class C tourney next week.
