Norwich 3, Chenango Valley 2 (OT)

FENTON - A switch of positions midway through the season has paid off for Norwich.

Junior Michaela Fazio scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season, the latter coming with 30 seconds left in the second overtime giving the Tornado their second victory over Chenango Valley this season.

Chenango Valley's goalie mishandled a ball in the penalty area, and sophomore Gabby Mirabito poked the ball loose to Fazio for the winner. Until the midway point of the season, Fazio had served as a defender for head coach Adam Sprague. "Michaela gives us a formidable defense, but with her on the offensive end, I think it gives our team more balance," Sprague said.

Norwich raced to a two-goal lead with Alyssa Welch connecting 10 minutes into the game, and Fazio scored just three minutes later.

CV rallied behind goals from Alaina Carman and Dani Forbidussi.

"It was looking like a victory might slip through our fingers, but we literally worked hard until the last play, and I'm very proud of our team and its effort," Sprague said.

Norwich (4-7-1) hosts powerhouse Chenango Forks Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Clinton 2, Sherburne-Earlville 1

CLINTON - Sherburne-Earlville fended off Clinton's attack for most of the game until Darby D'Angelo's goal with 21 minutes left gave the Center State Conference frontrunners the lead for good.

Sherburne-Earlville grabbed the early lead when Savannah Irwin scored off a direct kick with 12:23 left in the first half. That was one of just two S-E shots in the game, and the Marauders were outshot 12-0 in the second half.

"The kept hammering us in our defensive zone, but we held it together," said S-E coach Kylie Davis.

The Marauders finish the regular season with a 9-7 record, and are idle until the Section III Tournament later this month.

Summary

(1-1 at half)
