Sherburne-Earlville 1, V-V-S 0

VERONA – Sherburne-Earlville avenged an early-season tournament loss to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill scoring the game's only goal in the first half.

Sierra Barker served the ball into the penalty box area following an indirect kick, and Coughlin was on the spot to tally the goal.

"We just took it to them and had them out of rhythm the entire first half," said S-E coach Kylie Davis. "It nice to know that we're still improving midway through the season. This is about the time of year when things can get stale (for a team), but we just keep getting better."

Shanae Wright handled 14 shots to record the shutout.

The Marauders (5-4) play Sauquoit Valley on Saturday.

Johnson City 3, Norwich 1

JOHNSON CITY – Johnson City took advantage of its golden opportunity, and scored the go-ahead goal with three minutes left in the second half to beat Norwich Monday.

A Norwich player was struck in the face with a pass, and fell to the ground. Norwich's defense relaxed, while JC played on. That momentary NHS lapse allowed JC's Sam Majewski to score the game-winner. The Wildcats added an insurance goal in the last minute against a pushed-up Norwich offense.
