Whitney Point 4, Greene 0

GREENE – In a rematch of last year’s Class C sectional final, Whitney Point took over in the second half to blank the Trojans (2-2) Tuesday.

The Golden Eagles, one-goal winners over Greene in last season’s title game, were locked in a 0-0 tie after 30 minutes of play. “We had some good runs in the first half and it was back and forth,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “In the second half, they just moved the ball so well, and we got caught too many times not pressuring the ball.”

Brianna Sturdevant scored for Whitney Point 5:23 into the second half, and Courtney Dunham tallied moments later to up the lead to two.

“It was a tale of two halves, and we didn’t cover our marks as well as we needed to in the second half,” Carlin said. “Whitney Point plays together all year, and it shows.”
