Teachout favored in Chenango, still unable to defeat Cuomo

CHENANGO COUNTY – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Zephyr Teachout came out the victor in Chenango County in Tuesday’s primary election, but fell short of upsetting Governor Andrew Cuomo in statewide polling results.

According to the Associated Press, Cuomo ultimately defeated Teachout in what was a closer than expected race. Nonetheless, results in Chenango County marginally favored Teachout in a 311 to 275 vote. Randy Credico, a Fordham University law professor, came in third and earned only 37 votes in Chenango County.

Teachout has criticized Cuomo for his support of charter schools and business-friendly tax cuts, and she argued Cuomo has not fulfilled promises to rebuke government corruption in Albany.
