UV uses precision to down Delhi

Boys' Soccer

Unadilla Valley 4, Delhi 1

DELHI Unadilla Valley was exceptionally precise with its shots Tuesday afternoon.

The Storm scored four times on just eight shots to roll past Delhi in their opening game of the season.

Dylan Thomsen, back on the soccer team after a one-year absence, scored two times for UV with the first goal coming just 30 seconds into the game. Nate Barker added a goal and two assists, and freshman Brady George scored his first varsity goal 10 minutes into the second half.

UV's opening goal came after Barker lofted a pass over the Delhi defense to the speedy Thomsen, who beat the Delhi keeper in a one-on-one situation.

"Barker was really the star for us tonight," said UV coach Ryan Houck. "He played everywhere for us: Up top, some wing, some center half, and some fullback."

Storm newcomer Austin Taylor made a successful foray at keeper making seven saves. "Austin has some huge shoes to fill, and he took some huge steps forward tonight," Houck said.
