Pilot Hospitalized After Plane Crash In Greene

GREENE – One man is in critical condition at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City following a single-engine plane crash in Greene on Mondayafternoon, said authorities with the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

The CCSO 911 center received a call reporting a plane crash approximately a quarter of a mile southeast of the Greene airport at approximately 12:15 p.m.

The victim, a 70-year-old male, was pulled from the wreckage by a witness.

“The witness, at great risk to himself due to the spreading fire, acted quickly and was able to pull the pilot from the wreckage,” said Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting, Jr.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Village of Greene Police Department, the Greene Fire Department, and the Federal Aviation Administration. Sheriff Cutting additionally extended appreciation to the Greene Fire Department and Greene Ambulance Service for their quick and professional response on a busy holiday.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
