Chenango Forks 197, Norwich 203

GREENE – A big positive came out of a second straight defeat.

The Purple Tornado linksters fell by six strokes to Chenango Forks Thursday at Genegantslet Golf Club, but eclipsed the cutoff score to qualify for the Class B team sectionals.

Teams must finish no more than 30-over-par on a road course, and Norwich beat that number by two. "Yes, we're very happy about qualifying for team sectionals, but we know we still have a lot of work to do," said Norwich first-year coach David Branham.

Norwich's top four scores were exactly the same. Joe Mioduszewski, Alex Gage, Ryan Johnson, and Nate Scheer all turned in four-over-par 39s over the front nine at Genny. Seventh-grader Kai Scheer rounded out the scoring with a 47.

Forks' Zach Norton shot a 36 to earn medalist honors.

Norwich (1-2) is idle until Thursday, Sept. 6 when it hosts Johnson City at Canasawacta Country Club.
