Springfest at St. Malachy’s on Saturday

SHERBURNE – Anyone looking for homemade baked goods, local shopping or a fun community event should attend Springfest from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, May 17 at St. Malachy's Roman Catholic Church in Sherburne. It is the church's annual bazaar and is organized by the Altar Rosary Society with all proceeds to support the parish. Springfest will be held in the church hall, which is located underneath the church.

“It's been going on for many years under different names,” said Rev. Lester Smith. “The Altar Rosary Society is a woman's organization that supports the parish.”

He explained that various crafts, baked goods, plants and an indoor yard sale will be present at Springfest. He invites everyone in the local community to attend.

“There will be a raffle for an extra large (basket) that is full of different items for a picnic,” said Catherine Mastro, chairman of Springfest.

The raffle will take place at Springfest and the basket is currently on display at the NBT Bank in Sherburne. She explained that the baked goods will range from pies, cakes, quick breads and cookies, while the plants include tomatoes and various flowers for spring planting.

Mastro used to do a great deal of embroidery work as a career – even the complicated job of working on bridal gowns.
