There are times when a person starts to get sad. Especially around the Holidays or even Birthdays. For me, on my Birthday, it was five years ago this week we took my Mom to the Hospital and that was the beginning of her journey to Heaven. We always liked watching movies together and one star we have both liked was Kevin Costner. He has a lot of movies over the years from his one of his breakout hits like "Bull Durham" and "American Flyers" to hits like "The Bodyguard" with Whitney Houston, "The Untouchables" starring Sean Connery and his Academy Award hit "Dances With Wolves." In no particular order, here are the ones that we liked.

Available on DVD

Dances With Wolves- It's never easy blazing a trail for others to follow in. John Dunbar (Costner) was a soldier in the cavalry given the assignment to set up a new outpost further West than anyone has ever gone. There were a lot of dangers including the rugged terrain and the different types of Indians he might meet along the way. While he's setting up his new outpost, he meets a friendly tribe that are as curious about him as he is to them. Establishing trust is hard at first and communicating isn't easy either. They find a way to do it and he meets someone that he falls in love with.A young woman (Mary Mcdonnell) who was adopted into the tribe and named "Stands with a Fist". As John returns to his post to retrieve some items, he finds that the Army has arrived and they don't know what to make of him. They mistake him for a renegade and they take him prisoner. Will John find a way out and make it back to his friends.

Silverado- Making friends is never an easy thing to do. Peyton (Kevin Kline) was minding his own business and was left for dead by desperadoes. Emmett (Scott Glenn) comes along and rescues him on his way to meet up with his brother Jake (Costner). It seems Jake ran into some trouble of his own when he was unlawfully imprisoned for defending himself. Peyton and Emmett rescue Jake with a Posse in pursuit until they meet Mal (Danny Glover). It turns out they all agree to ride together where they help out a wagon train headed to the city of Silverado. When they get there, things aren't as good as they can really be. Friendships will be tested between them and their loyalties might be divided. With the Corrupt Sheriff (Brian Dennehy) and his men running the town, are Peyton, Jake, Emmett, and Mal going to be able to stop them?

Story Continues Below Adverts

The Bodyguard- Being the Boss of the person you're supposed to be protecting is not exactly an easy thing to do. Frank Farmer (Costner) worked for the Secret Service until he left for his own reasons and now he protects people all over the World. Frank is contacted to help guard Pop Sensation Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston). Frank's job might not be that easy as he finds out. It seems Rachel likes to do what she wants to when she wants to do it. That will have to change after Frank finds out that Rachel has a stalker and that person will do whatever they have to do to get to her. Can Frank find a way to straighten out Rachel and find the person who is out to hurt her?

The Untouchables- Being an honest person in a city full of thieves and murderers can't ever be as easy as you want it to be. Elliott Ness (Costner) was brought in help the Chicago Police take down the Liquor Trade that was considered at that time illegal. The man in charge was a crime boss named Al Copone (Robert Deniro). Elliott had to recruit some men to help him and to pick out those who weren't on the take. He finds a way to make it work with a team comprised of Jimmy Wallace (Sean Connery), Oscar Wallace (Charles Martin Smith), and George Stone (Andy Garcia). Is the team going to able to stop Copone who controls all crime in Chicago?

No Way Out- A military man trying to navigate through the halls of Politics in Washington D.C can be a battle in itself. Commander Tom Farrell (Costner) returned from a mission and landed himself a new post. Tom meets Susan Atwell (Sean Young) and at first things couldn't be more perfect. What Tom doesn't know is that Susan has also been involved with Senator Brice (Gene Hackman). Susan want to break it off with him but taking no for an answer is not sitting well with him. Brice accidentally kills Susan and now Tom is stuck between a rock and a hard place. The Government wants to coverup what happened and find who Susan was seeing to pin the murder on them. Is Tom going to be able to find a way to stay out of jail?

All of our picks are available on DVD in stores now. The Toddster is going to catch Costner's latest release titled "3 Days to Kill" and will be a featured in a future Toddster's Take. He also returns to his Sports roots in April with a comedy called "Draft Day" starring Jennifer Garner. Costner has always been an actor who's been able to take on any kind of role. Hey, he's still got it.
