Oxford Legion offers Valentine’s Day dance

Submitted by Jeanie Petersen

OXFORD – With Valentine’s weekend just around the corner, you need go no further than the Oxford Fort Hill Legion Post #376 to make your plans now. They’re offering two distinct evenings of entertainment and a heart warming chicken BBQ.

Friday, February 14, from 8-11 p.m., the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 376 will be sponsoring a Valentine’s Day dance. You do not have to be a member to attend; this fundraising event is open to the public. Music will be provided by DJ Dennis and the 5 Minute Idols spinning the tunes with an emphasis on love songs. For the price of a ticket, guests are bound to have a sweet time either stag or with their honeys. The hall will be decorated with lights, balloons in red and pink, and hearts galore. Aside from dancing, there will be raffles, and people will be able to ‘whet their whistle’ with a smorgasbord of delicious hors d’oeuvres, cakes and candies, an open bar (well drinks), and a 10 p.m. strawberry in champagne toast. Show that ‘special someone’ how you feel with a fun evening of food, dancing, and more. Advance sale admission tickets can be purchased at the Legion now for $20 per person. Admission at the door will be $25. This is a benefit for the Legion’s building fund. The historic Legion’s Post building needs a new roof.

If the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, then you don’t want to miss the Sons of the American Legion’s (SAL) chicken barbecue on Saturday, February 15, starting at 9 a.m.

If you haven’t had the SAL’s barbecued chicken - prepared by Oxford’s own Tim (McGowan) and Tim (Ross) and the Team before, you’ll fall in love as soon as you smell the delicious aroma. The chicken, $6.00 a half, will be sold starting at 9 a.m. until all are gone.

Saturday night (Feb. 15), DJ Dennis and the 5 Minute Idols will be back at the Legion from 7 -11 p.m., but this time Dennis is there with Karaoke to make you a singing star! The Legion doors are open to the public so everyone can have a turn singing into the mic over prerecorded backing tracks. Serenade your loved one with any song from “Bésame Mucho” to “Love Rollercoaster.” No admission charged.
