NORWICH – An investigation conducted by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Narcotics Division into the distribution of heroin countywide has resulted in the arrest of three area residents in the Town of Norwich.
Those charged following the investigation included Ashley Wakefield, 28, of Norwich, and Keith Johnson, 22, of New Berlin, after the pair allegedly attempted to sell heroin to an undercover police officer. The Town of New Berlin Police Department, and K9 Nitro, assisted with the investigation.
It’s alleged that Johnson was found to be in possession of ten bags of heroin, while Wakefield is accused of possessing a hypodermic needle and prescription drugs. Aaron Cleveland, 24, of New Berlin, was also placed under arrest, charged with fourth degree criminal facilitation, a misdemeanor.
Wakefield was charged with third degree attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance, fourth degree conspiracy, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument and criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail. Johnson was charged with third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and was also arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court, remanded to the CCCF on $10,000 cash bail. Cleveland was issued an appearance ticket and all three suspects are scheduled to re-appear in court at a later date.
